Outcome:
Three Artists (including one Swiss artist) are bieng commissioned to produce a final narrative sound piece
o It should be be a narrative work that makes use of language to tell a story that might occur along their chosen part of the River Rhine.
o The language in the piece used should be relavent to the languages spoken along the Rhine or language communities that might be affected by communities along the Rhine
for example, an argument can be made for using a language local to the Namib in Africa that was once colonize by the Germans or an artwork can be imagined to be spoken by an unknown aquatic species residing in the river).
Artists will be supported with:
o a sound library collected along the River Rhine by Studio Haseeb Ahmed
o the expertise of knowledge Ecosphere group specializing on river ecologies at University of Antwerp.
o and a grant of 4000,00 EUR each
o Presentation of artworks in listening sessions at Museum Rehmann in Laufenberg, Switzerland, _V2 Lab for Unstable Media in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and at the University of Antwerp, Antwerp, Belgium

Eligibility:
All artists are able to apply. However, at least one production grant will go to a Swiss artist. Artists within proximity to the Rhine or project partners in Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands will be favored due to their ability conduct first hand research with the River Rhine or partners.
Criteria:
- Selection will be based on the relevance of the proposal to tell a story related to a particular part or aspect of the Rhine.
- Artist should image that their artworks will be played in a sequence with one another.
- Artists should consider how they might use field recoridings, biomimetic systems, sounds of shipping, or historical compositions as part of their final pieces.

Payment:
Grant will be paid in two parts, with 70% being paid at the start of the commission and the remaining 30% being paid after its completion.
Timeline:
Further dates for one on one and group meetings with selected laureates will be announced after the selection.

The open call for 3 artists is announced, outlining project details, requirements, and submission processes.

Artists submit their applications and initial proposals by the end of November.
2025
- January, 2025: Jury Review and Proposal Evaluations
The jury meets to review artist submissions and proposals during these dates.
- January 12, 2025: Announcement of Selected Artists
Announce the 3 selected artists, giving them time to start refining their proposals.
- January 31, 2025: Artists Submit Final Proposals
The selected artists finalize and submit their detailed proposals during this two-week period.
- February 1 - May 1, 2025: Artists' Creation Period
Artists begin their 5-month creation period, utilizing the sound library.
- April 15-20, 2025: Midpoint Check-in
Conduct a feedback session to assess the artists’ progress.
- May 1-10, 2025: Final Project Preparation
Time reserved for final adjustments, logistics, and project installations.
- May 20-25, 2025: Project Presentations
The public presentation of the completed projects at Museum Rehmann, _V2, and Mesodrome.
